Overseas Box Office 2024: Pushpa 2 The Rule fails to beat Kalki 2898 AD Overseas Gross

Mumbai: Allu Arjun Pushpa 2 The Rule movie arrived in 2024 and smashed records all across. It became the highest grossing Indian film as it scored higher domestic nett and higher domestic gross than Baahubali 2 The Conclusion. Gross, Nett will tell a different story but when it comes to footfalls, Prabhas Baahubali 2 Movie is the biggest hit of the century with 11.50 approx footfalls which is the highest ever in this century. Pushpa 2 has crossed the 6 crore footfall mark which is a big number and no film has managed this post pandemic. Basically, in this century, Gadar, Pushpa 2 The Rule, Baahubali 2 are the only films to cross 6 crore footfalls. When all-time records are smashed in gross and nett terms then its quite evident that all records for that particular year are also demolished. But here the case is slightly different. Pushpa 2 The Rule did emerge as India’s Highest Grossing Film but in the overseas markets it ranks second behind Kalki 2898 AD.

    Highest Grossing Indian Films Overseas 2024

Kalki 2898 AD released in Russia and Japan in its phase 2 run and the total overseas gross is to the North of $32.20M but here, Inside Box Office has considered only the Phase 1 Release Gross. Kalki 2898 AD business is commendable while Pushpa 2 The Rule is also good but looks pale in comparison to Baahubali 2 which was near $47M. But Baahubali 2 The Conclusion had extremely positive word of mouth and is regarded as one of the best films ever to come out of Indian Cinema so hence its fare. The real surprise is GOAT which is a decent, non-franchise film that had mixed word of mouth. Thalapathy Vijay star-power played a key role.

    Box Office Comparison (Key Overseas Markets)

Pushpa 2 The Rule is ahead in most markets but the main underperformance is coming from USA. Even Canada numbers are excellent with Hindi pushing extremes but even then there is a $3.29M difference between Pushpa 2 The Rule and Kaki 2898 AD as far as North America is concerned.

There are many smaller markets that add up to $4.30M in case of Pushpa 2 The Rule and $2.55M in case of Kalki 2898 AD. And any which ways, Kalki 2898 AD is a bigger grosser than Pushpa 2 The Rule in totality in the overseas markets. This is also the Highest Grossing Phase 1 South Indian Overseas grosser only behind the giant Baahubali 2 The Conclusion.

Even after immense hype and popularity, there are few markets where Thalapathy Vijay shows his pull and stardom, and Pushpa 2 or Kalki aren’t even close. Yes, the Highest Grossing Indian film in regions like Malaysia, Singapore, France, Norway, Sri Lanka and a few smaller markets too is The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) starring Superstar Thalapathy Vijay. Please Note: There are some markets that will alter numbers due to distributor’s update but even then Kalki 2898 AD will remain the Highest Grossing Indian Film of 2024 Overseas.
