There were times when films on animals were hugely anticipated. Our films in the past had this element. Those films were rich in storytelling and the bond between the hero and the animal would be showcased really well with peak commercial elements. Cut to 2025, we have a film titled Azaad that tries to explore the same genre but misses the bull’s eye somehow. Azaad Movie Cast includes Diana Penty, Ajay Devgn, his nephew Amaan Devgan and also Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani. Azaad 2025 marks the debut of Amaan and Rasha. The film opened to a dull response and opened with an underwhelming number. It released on 17th January and clashed with Kangana Ranaut fronted Emergency. Both the films opened to disaster numbers across India and Overseas. On the release date, Azaad movie tickets were available at Rs 99/- across major centres.

Azaad 2025 Hindi Movie Review

Azaad suffers from No Clarity
The film has multiple issues but the biggest issue is having no clarity. There are films that have multiple tracks but the film that works at the box office will always have a central idea or a main idea and every doubt is answered as the film ends. In case of Azaad, the makers have tried showing multiple things and have failed miserably. The trailer showed Ajay Devgn having an important role to play but in the film, the character seems forced also the screentime was prolonged just to make the film more saleable. But if the writing isn’t upto the mark then such gimmicks don’t work. In fact it turns out to be disappointing as the audience expects Ajay Devgn to take charge but he ends up having a forced, extended cameo appearance.
Azaad is not a film, it’s a Project
Films are conceptualised on the basis of a story. The story is then elevated by the script and the screenwriting and then the resources are arranged. In films like Azaad, the film is made on the basis of whatever is available, at least it seems so on viewing. The film literally drags and there is no innovation at all. No efforts in cinematography, sound design, music etc. The female lead’s dialogues in parts, are not in sync with the movement of her lips and it does not match her expressions too. Yes, that’s the below par technical aspect of this project. A senior actor like Ajay Devgn has no larger than life appeal. The plot revolves around the male lead uttering the same words again and again through out. The annoying accent and the monotony of the film makes it unbearable. Entire cast disappoints hugely and no one seems interested in the film.
What works? And what does not?
Whatever works in the film is very limited. There is some drama of about 20 to 25 minutes that works in totality. Because everything is so dull and boring, these minutes appear to be okayish and keep you invested for a while. Barring this, you will be on your cell phones throughout. Azaad, the horse, comes across the best performer of the film. Azaad Movie Budget is huge and box office recovery looks impossible and most likely a Disaster verdict is on cards. The emotions between the animal and the hero could have been much better if there was a back story or if the elements were right. Few changes in the camera shots and angles, few changes in the BGM and the same moments would have been impactful. But the story is so dull that even these elements would not make any changes as such.
Opening Note
Azaad took a disastrous start by scoring Rs 1.50 crore on Day 1. It score around Rs 75 lacs only across national chains (PVR, Inox, Cinepolis) properties in India. The overseas opening is also underwhelming as it scored $6K in Australia, $3.5K in New Zealand, $7.5K in the United Kingdom on Day 1. These are almost similar to Emergency which itself is a bigger film. The weekend trend looks disappointing with shows being cancelled left and right. A Disaster verdict is loading.
