Rajinikanth’s new movie release Coolie is directed by the highly acclaimed filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. The cast of Coolie consists of actors from all around the nation coming together to star in a true Pan-India film.
Coolie star cast consists of Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR and Monisha Blessy. The film is produced by Sun Pictures. Though the film will be releasing in August, the biggest of the coolie movie updates came with the addition of Aamir Khan in the film’s cast. 
Notably, Aamir Khan will appear in this film in an extended cameo. Initially, Fahadh Faasil was also offered a lead role in Coolie but he rejected the role due to scheduling conflicts. The music and the background score of Coolie is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Anirudh is known to collaborate regularly with Lokesh Kanagaraj and produce some of the best of his tunes for his films, majorly the ones which are a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). During its announcement, the Rajinikanth movie Coolie was considered by fans to be a part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe but it was later clarified that Coolie is not a part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s LCU.

Coolie Upcoming Movie Release Date

The much-awaited Rajinikanth film Coolie is set to release in theaters globally on 14 August 2025, a day before Independence Day. The film is set to clash against another upcoming Pan-India action entertainer, War 2 from the YRF’s Spy Universe. Both the film’s target audience from all over the nation. War 2 stars Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana in the lead roles. It will be directed by Ayan Mukerji and is yet to be officially announced with a proper release date. 
Both War 2 and Coolie will prove to be tough competitors against each other at the box office. Both are high budget action entertainers standing against each other featuring a Pan-India appealing cast from different film industries. Interestingly, Hrithik Roshan acted with Rajinikanth when he was just a child in the 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada, that too in a prominent role as Rajinikanth’s son in the movie. It was a Bollywood movie starring Rajinikanth in the lead along with many popular actors like Hrithik Roshan’s father Rakesh Roshan, Sridevi, Paresh Rawal, Danny Denzongpa and Tina Munim.
When Coolie was far away from its release date, the team of Coolie released 2 songs – Coolie Disco and Chikitu Vibe. While Coolie Disco was released 1 year ago in April 2024, the dance song Chikitu Vibe was released on Rajinikanth’s birthday last year on 12 December 2024. Both the songs were received with a decent enough response, further elevating the hype for the movie.
As for the Thalaivar Rajinikanth fans, it is believed to become one of the most Rajinikanth popular movies. While the budget of movie is not known yet, it is hyped majorly because the director of coolie movie, Lokesh Kanagaraj, is considered as one of the best directors of Kollywood film industry in present times. Coolie marks the first ever collaboration of the director with Rajinikanth. As it brings together actors from all across India, it is believed to get a very wide release in the Hindi movie market in the North, making it more attractive to the North Indian audience.
